You do not need a license to become a makeup artist in New Jersey, if: |
In the state of New Jersey, makeup application is defined as “applying cosmetic preparations, antiseptics, tonics, lotions, creams or makeup to the hair, scalp, face, neck or upper part of the body”, under the practice of a “beautician”. However, in the “New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling Law”*, Section 45:5B-7, makeup artists who are in the theatrical, film, TV, and radio industry, makeup artists who are working in a retail environment, and makeup artists who are working in facilities regulated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs of United States Department of Defense, are exempted from licensing. |
